A Place to Call My Own

This just in:

I now have a place to live!

With help from the University of Copenhagen housing department I was able to choose one of several housing options. My final decision was to live in Østerbro Kolligiet, a residential hall in the Østerbro neighbourhood of Copenhagen. It's a student residential hall/college but not like Albies (where I live whilst studying at UNE), I will have my own bathroom and a kitchenette so essentially the set up will be like my own studio apartment.

I have seen photos taken in a standard room to give me a rough idea of what mine will look like...

(Sorry for the bad quality of the photos, they were only screenshots.)

I am enjoying how much light the windows allow in and it has all the necessities for my 6 months living there.

Of course, tune in after I've moved in for photos of my actual room, furnished and 'Ana-ified' to make the room my home during my stay.

43 days to go and everything appears to be falling perfectly into place *touch wood*

My 'Get Keen' Countdown

Denmark Everywhere!

So it is a theory that I often ponder, do things relating to the country I am travelling to start appearing everywhere because I am going there? Or have they always been there and I just notice them more so now because I have a person interest in the subject?

The same thing happened with Finland, it was suddenly being mentioned more in social media posts, movies, books I was reading etc. Now it is happening with Denmark, from seeing an ice-creamery in Sydney titled: Royal Copenhagen Ice Cream and now the screen shot below from HBO's Hannibal.

I don't know if I will ever find an answer to that question but I just figured I would share it with all of you.

Hope everyone is getting excited for Christmas, only 11 days to go!

Flights Booked

The first thing that has finally made it click that this is reality vs. just being one of the many plans I have for an unknown time in the not too distant future.

Basically, the flight details are:

Leaving Sydney at 21:45 (9:45pm) on 27/01/2014 on flight: QF8413

3 hour stop over in Dubai

Arriving at Copenhagen airport 12:25(pm) local time on the 28/01/2014

Then the adventure begins!

Exchange: Round 2

Hey everyone, so it's been a while but I'm back.

It's been almost 2 years since I returned from my 12 months as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student to Kotka, Finland. The time has flown but then it has also been the longest 2 years of missing my Finnish life, families and friends. Trying to find a balance between returning to Australian life and not losing the person Finland helped me become has been quite a battle as well.

Upon returning to Australia I began my university education at the University of New England, Armidale. I have just finished my second year and the travel bug was biting again (not that it ever went away) so I decided to apply for an exchange through my university.

I am several levels of ecstatic to announce that I have been accepted for 6 months exchange to the University of Copenhagen in 2014.

The main purpose of this blog is to be able to keep all of you up to date with what I'm up to. Of course I'll still be in contact with many of you but this is much easier (and less time consuming) than composing multiple messages. Plus so many people told me how much they enjoyed my blog whilst in Finland, so hopefully I can be as entertaining this time around. Also a huge hello and welcome to anyone who just stumbled across this blog, I hope it can interest you in some way as well.

Anyway, this was just an icebreaker post to get the big news out there. I'm feeling a little rusty and awkward having not done this for a while but I'm dusting off the cobwebs and am keen to be starting up again.

Stay tuned for more specifics about my trip!
